The founding faculty of CalArts wisely opened the school in 1970 with a full complement of students, admitting transfers into all four undergraduate levels as well as the graduate program. I was in the mixed roomful of photographers where Ben immediately sliced through what we thought we knew, challenging us to seriously make legitimate pictures.
